Overview

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets people spread prescription costs across the year with no interest, but it is confusing. There are opt-in windows, plan-specific forms, a required plan-name lookup, and an audience of older adults who are anxious about drug costs and unsure what to do next. The site says Paytient powers the technology behind the program for 40 percent of beneficiaries with prescription drug coverage in 2025, so a confusing opt-in was a real cost. The site launched for the 2025 enrollment period.

What I made

A short guided path instead of one long explainer.

  • A first screen that leads with the benefit. "Get your meds with the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan," with "Got Medicare Rx drug coverage? You can get your meds for $0 and pay your bill later with no interest" and one "Opt in now" button. An illustration of a Medicare card beside the opt-in form shows what to have ready. I made the illustration.

  • Explain, then prove. A short "What is it?" section, then a video of older adults describing the program in their own words.

  • Make the math personal. A calculator shows estimated monthly prescription payments across the year. The page says no personal information is collected, saved or shared.

  • A guided opt-in. A tool completes the plan's form and submits it for the person, so they don't handle the paperwork. A dedicated FAQ walks through the timeline (24 hours to 5 to 7 business days), step-by-step form instructions for yourself or on someone's behalf, what to do if your plan doesn't respond, and how to opt out. A phone directory completes the flow.

  • Honest framing. A clear note says who built the site and that it is not affiliated with CMS or any plan sponsor.

  • Calm, readable design. Paytient's type and color system, with large type and generous spacing for an older audience.

  • An explainer video. I made the "How It Works" video that walks through the program in a short clip.

What this shows

Designing a government-program explainer for a cautious audience, a guided form flow that removes paperwork, plain-language information design, and a healthcare experience built around trust.
